Naracoorte Caves

We went camping on the Australia Day weekend to a little place called Robe, which is in the bottom South-East of South Australia. Robe is a fishing village – cray fish in particular. We hired a camper trailer to see how they go. Interestingly, the cost to hire a camper trailer is only a few hundred dollars a week but to buy one is expensive – $15,000 for our hire model. Pretty easy maths.

We visited Naracoorte caves – a World Heritage listed site. Why is it listed? Well, it’s one of the few sites that has mega-fauna fossils – basically large mammals that were trapped and died in the caves and later buried in mud. The caves apparently give a continuous 100,000 year history of these mamals – many now extinct.
